Screen.IN: Essays on Being

Memory, ritual, grief, landscape, and shared existence This month’s Screen.IN brings together four short essay films that look at how we live with what we cannot fully control, hold onto, or leave behind. Moving through myth and ritual, personal grief, rivers and memory, and our shared lives with pigeons in the city, the films reflect on absence, repetition, place, and the more-than-human world around us. Witness by Aishworya What began as a project of filming everything and anything gradually became a film about navigating absence, grief, and loss. Confluence by Sazeed A walk upstream the Chandeswori River in Banepa turns into a reflection on memory, and the evolving dynamics of people with the water bodies. The narrator’s voice adapts an imagined dialogue with the river, recalling memories, myths, and the memory of communal life, which remain embedded in the landscape. Demonstrating an observation approach blended with fiction, the film comments on separation, reciprocity, and the potential reconnection with the water bodies. Stringfoot by Shreemila What are our relationships made of? Driven by this question, Stringfoot explores what it means to live in a shared urban space alongside the more than human beings that surround us. Through the lives of pigeons, the film reflects on this entangled relationship, asking what consequences emerge from this coexistence, and who ultimately bears the weight. भव: (Bha wa) by Sujan How would you feel when you are stuck in a loop that you do not have control over? भव: (Bha wa) explores states of being, bringing the experience of the self into conversation with the myth and ritual of Mahisasur. We’ll gather in the Loft for the screening, followed by an informal conversation with the filmmakers. Screen.IN is less like a formal cinema hall and more like watching films together in a shared living room with cushions, popcorn, tea, and space to sit with what the films bring up. No film knowledge needed. Come ready to watch, listen, think, and share if you feel like it. Saturday, July 18 | 5:00 PM | Loft @ Sattya Seating is limited, so advance registration is encouraged.

The Work Table

A co-working session for getting unstuck and moving something forward. Bring a project, proposal, application, pitch, plan, email draft, budget sheet, portfolio update, or anything else you’ve been avoiding. We’ll share the space, set a few work goals, and spend focused time actually working alongside each other. There may be a short founder talk, a guided work sprint, or a simple check-in depending on the day. Either way, the idea is the same: sit down, get started, and leave with something a little more complete than when you came in. Good for freelancers, founders, creatives, students, and anyone who works better with a bit of structure and company. Date: Thu, Jul 23, 11:00 AM | Space: Cowork | Price: Rs. 100
